In praise of drips

Encouragement

Encouragement, like a preposterously beautiful stalactite, grows little by little.

Each tiny drop, trickling down and down, carries with it a few more tiny grammes of substance.

Between them, over a time which no clock can measure, they make something new – suspended in the inner space, a testament to the drips which made it.

Like a stalactite, too, it only takes a careless stumble or an ill-guarded move to snap it off altogether.

That’s when the drips begin their work again, each tiny carrier bearing the seeds of re-creation.

Thank God, today, for the drips.
