Glorious mess

A whole lot of fun

Years ago I stumbled across the following phrase in a Charles Swindoll book: ‘better a productive mess than tidy idleness’. Ever since I have tried to make my creativity the excuse for my messiness – though I am not sure it altogether works.

Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama has definitely created a virtue out of mess here though. Her exhibit, The Obliteration Room, opened in The Queensland Gallery of Modern Art as an entirely white room. Everything – from the walls and floor to the furniture and the plants, was stark and unyielding white. Children visiting the exhibit were then encouraged to adorn the room with stickers – which they have done with a vengeance:

Of course you could ask – is it art? I prefer to ask – isn’t it fun?
