The Howard Carter Moment

A thought for Friday

Earlier today I was reading Jasper Fforde’s brief autobiography in which he referred to his “Howard Carter moment”.  Momentarily puzzled, I looked into it a little further, and was reminded of the story. On Sunday 26th November 1922, with Lord Carnarvon at his side, Carter finally broke through into King Tutankhamen’s burial chamber. Holding his sputtering candle through the small opening, he was asked ‘what can you see’? After 15 years of searching he was all but overwhelmed, and could only manage to stammer:

‘I see wonderful things’

That was his Howard Carter moment. What was yours, I wonder?
